Finding out that your world is lacking or confusing the same vivid colors as many others can be quite difficult news. But a team of scientists has just developed a way to print a new, ultra-thin material that changes the color of light on a curved surface.

Although the technology still has to go through clinical trials and it has some way to go before it becomes commercially available, developers say this allows for the creation of tiny contact lenses that will give colorblind people the ability to distinguish red from green.

Contact Lenses for Colorblind People Are In Development

At Tel Aviv University in Israel, a team of researchers reports that their contact lenses improve color perception and restore lost color contrast by a factor of ten. The lenses are made for people with “deuteranomaly,” who have problems distinguishing between red and green in particular. Upon closer look at this contact lens, a tiny golden ellipse can be seen, which is used to correct that condition. The researchers hope to expand their new technology and figure out how to treat any type of color blindness.

The Lenses of Tomorrow

The team used ultra-thin optical devices, known as metasurfaces, to create groundbreaking lenses. This new type of customizable lenses will offer a much more convenient and comfortable way for people who experience various forms of color blindness than the bulky glasses that are used today.

Some researchers believe that colorblindness can interrupt simple daily routines, like determining if a fruit is ripe or not. These contact lenses will use the nano-metric size gold ellipse-based metasurfaces to create a durable, compact, and customized way to address the problems of colorblind people.

Coming up with a method to print the metasurfaces on curved surfaces was a truly groundbreaking event. It enables scientists to use the new technology for contact lenses and improve color perception up to a factor of ten. And most importantly, opens the door for much more optical opportunities in the future.

While women all over the world have swooned over George Clooney since his days in the ER, there is only one woman who has managed to tie the actor down and even give birth to his kids. There was something about the Lebanese barrister that was completely right, whether it be her beauty, intelligence, or philanthropy work, that won Clooney over.

In 2011, George Clooney revealed during a British talkshow interview that his father demanded George would take a long, hard look at his romantic choices. And his father had a point…

A perpetual bachelor, it didn’t seem likely that Clooney would ever settled down, so read on to find out what exactly it was about George’s new lady that made him change his ways.

George’s parents, Nick and Nina Clooney, had been married for more than 50 years when Nick decided to have a chat with his son. At the time, Clooney was 49-years-old, and his father turned around to him and said:

“I want you to think about that. I want you to think about – we’ve been married – Nina and I have been married 51 years.” However, the actor responded with, “I hate to blow your whole news story, but I was married, so I gave it a shot.”

In fact, George was married once before Amal became Mrs. Clooney, and that was from 1989-1993. Actress Talia Balsam was the lucky lady to have George Clooney walk down the aisle and say “I do,” but their marriage was not to last.

During his interview with Piers Morgan, therefore, Clooney avoided the subject of remarriage and would change the topic when asked. Meanwhile, Clooney was romantically linked to Italian beauty Elisabetta Canalis at the time, and this interview undoubtedly gave Canalis the hint about marriage to the star.

Years after their split, however, there were no hard feelings between actress Talia Balsam and her ex-husband. Balsam spoke out years later about George Clooney and even compared him to the show, Divorce, in which she stars.

The show’s premise speaks of a couple’s broken marriage, in which Thomas Haden Church plays the husband. “If you’re trying to compare [George] to Thomas Haden Church’s character, not at all,” she told People, adding, “George is charming. He remains charming. I’ve worked with him.”

While Talia eventually went on to star in Mad Men and marry her co-star, John Slattery, Clooney was mending his broken heart by dating many more women. However, even before Talia, there was Kelly Preston, the now-wife of the famous actor, John Travolta.

The pair dated from 1987-1989 and also lived together, but Kelly has been with Travolta since 1991 and has had three kids with the star. Meanwhile, following his divorce, Clooney embarked on a romance with Kimberly Russell.

It was rumored that Clooney eventually ended his two-year relationship with Russell with a letter, which is perhaps not the most charming of ways. However, he did go on to use his charm to sweep a law student and waitress in Paris off her feet.

Clooney brought Celine Balitran to Los Angeles after falling head over heels for her in 1996. Just as the Oceans Eleven star had done previously, he embarked on a relationship with Celine for three years. Once again, however, it was not to last.

While the world was fully aware that George Clooney was not one to commit and settle down, the award-winning actor was fully aware of this also. “I’m actually a much better ex-boyfriend that I am a boyfriend,” admitted Clooney a year after his split from Celine Balitran in 2000.

However, he did reveal that he helped his ex out following their break-up. “She… came [to LA] for me. So, I felt it became something of my responsibility to make sure that… she had a great place to live… had cash.”

While the actor was completely honest about why he never put a ring on it, he was also very honest about the fact that his career came first. “I love working. I love being on a film set, trying to make something special. It is a very selfish life,” admits Clooney.

“It means my relationships seem to last between two and three years. At that point, these independent women think it is time to call it a day.” He adds, “I don’t blame them for wanting more from a relationship.”

It seems that Clooney worked his magic around the world, and his next fling was with British model and television presenter, Lisa Snowden. The couple met while shooting a commercial together, and continued to have an on-off relationship for the next five years.

This relationship took American tabloids by storm, as well as those across the pond. However, after a five-year affair, the beautiful pair called it quits in 2005. While Clooney was proving to be unlucky in love, there has been one relationship that has survived.

While the relationship between Lisa Snowdon and George Clooney took the media by storm, it was said that the cause of their split was down to the British model’s refusal to move to LA. “We’re friends,” stated Lisa.

“I got back with George a couple of times… But you do have to realize you split for a reason.” Lisa continued, “The hardest thing was the perception that I was going out with George to further my career. In fact, work almost totally dried up.”

Amal may be the person Clooney chose to share the rest of his life with, but the famous actor also shares a lot with his best friend, Rande Gerber.

The husband of Cindy Crawford is Clooney’s business partner for their tequila brand, Casamigo, and they have neighboring houses in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. In fact, after a heavy night out in Cabo, Clooney made his way into the wrong house, and Cindy Crawford mistook Clooney for her husband when she got into the guest bed next to him.

While Celine Balitran took three years to realize that her future plans could not include George Clooney, she did notice one thing was for certain during their time together. That was the relationship he had with his friends, many of whom are celebrities also.

“His friends are very important to him,” said Celine. “He’s had the same ones for 20 years. George has the rare quality of not forgetting people that were there to help him from the beginning.”

In fact, Nicole Kidman and Michelle Pfeiffer were so sure of it that they made a $1,000 bet with the actor that he would. Clooney, of course, won the bet. He went double or nothing with the same terms, and by the age of 50, won once again.

Having been friends for over 20 years, Gerber’s friendship with Clooney has proven to be a strong one. The friends had a common love for tequila and decided to “make the best-tasting, smoothest tequila whose taste didn’t have to be covered up with salt or lime.”

It took Gerber and Clooney two years of working with a master distiller in Mexico to find the perfect formula. After many, many blind tastings, the day finally came when they could say ‘don’t change a thing.’

Their tequila venture seems to have paid off since it was purchased in June 2017 for $700 million plus another $300 million based on the brand’s performance by Diageo.

Casamigos – which derives from “casa” and “amigos” meaning house and friends – became the “fastest-growing super-premium tequila brand in the US,” according to the world’s largest spirits manufacturer, the British multinational, Diageo. In fact, much of Clooney’s wealth is largely thanks to the sale of Casamigos, which was originally never intended to go public.

In the recent release of the Forbes’ Celebrity 100: The Highest-Paid Entertainers list, Clooney was placed at number 2, falling just behind Boxer Lloyd Mayweather. Forbes announced that Clooney made $239 million pre-tax earnings from June 1, 2017 to June 1, 2018.

His healthy paycheck, however, is mostly thanks to the sale of Casamigos as opposed to his acting work. Meanwhile, George has featured in over 30 films and was a prominent character in the hit series, ER, where he played, Dr. Doug Ross.

In the last year, George earned more in one year than any previous actor. Meanwhile, the Catch-22 star has garnered another record to his name during his career. In fact, Clooney is the only person who has been nominated for Academy Awards in six different categories.

He won two of those awards thanks to his role in Syriana and for co-producing Argo, and received two Primetime Emmy Award nominations for his role in ER. It was his role as Dr. Doug Ross which attracted many lead film roles from then on.

Clooney may have managed to make big bucks from something he loved, but that didn’t stop everyone speaking about his love life over the years. In fact, George has been linked to many leading ladies who are successful in their own right.

In 2006, after a picture was released of Clooney and Renee Zellwegger holding hands, the media went into overload on speculating that the actors were a couple. Before this, Clooney dated Krista Allen, who he got back together with for a short time in 2006 and 2008.

Another leading lady rumored to have had a fling with one of the world’s most famous bachelors was Charlie’s Angels star, Lucy Liu. While it has never been confirmed, it was reported that the famous actors had been together in the year 2000.

Further fuel was added to the fire when they were photographed kissing on New Year’s Eve in 2006 by the paparazzi. While this may have been considered enough proof to confirm a romance between the pair, there was nothing following this.

In 2007, Desperate Housewives star, Teri Hatcher spoke in her Vanity Fair cover story about a “mystery man.” As the media does, the speculation around this mystery man began, and many believed it was, in fact, George Clooney.

However, the tabloids moved on shortly after when Clooney started dating former Fear Factor contestant and cocktail waitress, Sarah Larson. The couple dated from 2007 to 2008 and, during the relationship, the pair were involved in a motorcycle accident. Fortunately, they came out of the accident with nothing too serious.

In the interview, he avoided the topic of remarriage and said marriage was not for him. While Canalis had mentioned weeks prior to their break-up that she intended to get married, she perhaps realized it was not going to be to the Batman & Robin star.

In fact, it came as no surprise to many that the couple split, since Elisabetta had publicly stated, “I am a firm believer in marriage, in the future, I will be married.”

With most of the public aware of George Clooney’s stance on this topic, it looked like Elisabetta’s future could not include the Ocean’s Eleven star. This is similar to Celine’s interview where she stated, “… it is obvious to me that, in a love story, there is marriage and children,” only for the couple to then part ways.

George Clooney may have embarked on a relationship with Canalis for two years, but that didn’t mean people didn’t start rumors that the relationship was professional rather than private.

In response to these rumors, Canalis cleared the air when she said, “So many people believe that a relationship with a such a famous person, always in the spotlight, was not possible.” She continued, “Instead we had a real connection, and it ended as all relationships can end.”

Canalis eventually went on to marry, and happened to get married the same month and in the same country as 53-year-old Clooney. Both Canalis and Clooney married their respective partners in September 2014 and in the romantic destination of Italy.

However, before finally getting married, Clooney was linked to Stacy Keibler, the same year things between himself and Canalis ended. In fact, it was in October, just three months after his previous relationship, that Clooney started dating the former wrestler.

As soon as word got out that Clooney was dating Stacey Keibler, someone else had a few words of wisdom for the former professional wrestler. Elizabeth Daily knew George Clooney since she was a teenager and began dating him in 1993 following his divorce.

Speaking to Star magazine, Daily said, “I wouldn’t have any expectation of anything serious.” While she stated Keibler should “enjoy him,” she continued to say, “Girls think they can tame him, but it will never happen. They’re wasting their time.”

It seems that Daily was right since Clooney and Keibler ended their romance two years later in 2013. It was alleged that 33-year-old Keibler was the one to end the relationship because George was not willing to settle down.

A friend told People magazine, “Stacy called it quits. She wants to have children and a family someday. She knows where George stands on that.” However, just like many of George Clooney’s girlfriends, their career really took off after their romance, and this was no different for Keibler.

Keibler raised her profile when she dated Clooney and went on to have her own TV show called Supermarket Superstar. Meanwhile, many of Clooney’s exes also became stars following their breakup.

Denise Crosby, who George dated in the early ’80s, got her big break in Star Trek: Next Generation and, after their brief romance in 2000, Taylor Howard starred in Monk. However, while these women came and went from George’s life, there was one love that stayed for many years after his break-ups.

While he once stated that if he could get Max into a wedding dress, he would marry him “because that way people might stop going on at me about settling down,” he was still yet to meet Amal Alamuddin.

While it would be assumed he would get the woman of his dreams, they would marry, have kids and live the ultimate family life, he continued to prove people wrong with his path in life. That was all until he met Amal Alamuddin and everything changed for the multi-award-winning actor, who now has more than just awards and honors to his name.

Speaking of his best friend to The Times, Rande Gerber explained that for the famous bachelor to settle down, it was not about timing, but rather about ‘meeting the right person’ in Amal.

The Hollywood actor and the human rights lawyer first crossed paths in Lake Como, the same Italian resort where Clooney owns a home. According to Elle, George said that it was not easy to win the Lebanese barrister over and it took some hard work from the Oceans Eleven star.

Speaking of how he met Amal, George said, “She was a friend of a friend who came to visit, and then I chased her for many months, calling and writing, those kinds of things.”

Speaking of his initial attraction, he told Hollywood Reporter in an interview, “I thought she was beautiful, and I thought she was funny and obviously smart.” He jokingly continued to say that she “probably thought I was old.” Amal was 35 at the time while Clooney was 52.

Before being known around the world as the wife of George Clooney, or even by Amal Clooney for that matter, Amal Alamuddin was a barrister specializing in international law and human rights.

While many of Clooney’s ex-girlfriends found success in their careers following their high-profile romance, Amal had already achieved success in her profession before dating the actor. Her clients include Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks, Mohamed Fahmy, the Egyptian-Canadian journalist, and Yulia Tymoshenko, the former prime minister of Ukraine.

After meeting in June 2013, the pair chatted for weeks and, after “writing each other, emailing, talking, mostly about what was going on in each other’s lives,” it soon “became clear we were more than just friends,” explains George.

It was only in October, however, that they went on their first date – Clooney invited Amal to meet him in London. They went for dinner, and after they left, they were greeted by over 50 paparazzi. Clooney, however, said Amal “handled it like a champ.”

They then spent Christmas together that year, and by April 2014, the couple was engaged. George admits to there being no elaborate proposal but, rather, he asked Amal to get a lighter from the drawer to light a candle.

Rather than reaching for a lighter, she pulled out a ring instead; “She just kept staring at the ring, going, ‘Oh, my God.’ It was 20 minutes of me on my knee, waiting for her to say yes, because she was so shocked.”

In September of that year, the couple invited their guests to the Aman Canal Grande luxury resort in Venice, Italy.

Of course, the whole event was a star-studded affair with guests including Matt Damon, John Krasinski, Emily Blunt, and, of course, Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber. They were also married by one of Clooney’s friends, Walter Veltroni, a former mayor of Rome. The public even got a great glimpse of the whole affair with it being widely publicized in the media.

For years, the public knew Clooney to have a lady on his arm but never to settle down. While the actor certainly shocked the world when he finally married, he created an even bigger surprise when he revealed he wanted to become a father.

“It had never been part of my DNA,” George told the Hollywood Reporter. “We didn’t plan on it. We never talked about it until after we were married, which is funny. There was an assumption that we didn’t want them.”

At 55-years-old, George officially announced that Amal was pregnant in February 2017. According to E! News, George had given The Talk host, Julie Chen, the approval to announce that he and Amal were expecting, making it a casual announcement on the chat show.

George later told the Hollywood Reporter that Amal, who was 39 at the time, got pregnant without any fertility treatments. He then revealed the shock when the doctor announced they were expecting twins stating, “there’s one…and there’s the second one.”

On June 6, 2017, the power couple’s twins, Alexander and Ella, were born. “This morning Amal and George welcomed Ella and Alexander Clooney into their lives,” a statement George released to People says.

“Ella, Alexander, and Amal are all healthy, happy, and doing fine. George is sedated and should recover in a few days.” When asked about his kids, George was quick to rave about the amazing job Amal is doing as a mom and “the love they have for her is a sight to see and it’s beautiful.”

It seems George took to fatherhood pretty quickly, calling his one-year-olds “two knuckleheads” who “make me laugh every day.” The twins made their first public appearance a year after being born when they were carried off the plane with their parents in June 2018.

Meanwhile, Amal admitted the two young tots had already said their first word. “We’ve had some ‘mamas’ and ‘dadas.’ George was very careful to ensure that ‘mama’ was the first word,” Amal told Vogue.

Since welcoming his twins, George has been open about his views on his family life. “All of this is icing on the cake,” he said.

“Look, I’m 56 years old, and I didn’t think it was going to happen for me. I thought my life would be focused on my career, not relationships, and I’d sort of accepted that.” However, he noted the change being, “And then I met Amal, and I thought, ‘Well, I have this incredible relationship, this is wonderful.'”
